Bio
Ryan Damm is a filmmaker, technologist, and light field expert. He’s been shooting video since the early 90s (Hi-8 decks in a friend’s garage), and building custom film equipment since ~2000. In pursuit of better images, he’s written software, soldered leads, welded housings, and destroyed a humbling number of cameras in the process. He is a frequent speaker and writer on the subject of light fields, speaking at NAB, SVVR, the podcast TWiT (Home Theater Geeks), and now AWE. You can find his writing about light fields at UploadVR, where he is the resident camera expert. In 2015 he cofounded Visby, a light field technology company.

Introduction to Light Fields12:00 PM - 12:15 PM Jun 2Augmented Reality displays are fundamentally holographic: as a user moves around, the subject matter should change to reflect that view, like a hologram. And there is no better way to convey holographic imagery than light fields. In this brief session, we'll cover what light fields are, a short history of the art, and why it's superior to volumetric imaging for augmented reality displays.
